Got some nice jackdaw neck hackles, so started tying some BWO spiders in 16-18 Tiemco barbless emerger hooks - what a fun soft hackle to tie with

Here is a deceiver I tied up. Anyone have any tips on how to slim it down so the deer hair is more condensed and not so spread out?

Maybe use smaller clumps and stagger them along the shank rather than fewer bigger clumps ?

Try thiner pieces of hair. Looks like its flairing which means the hair is to hollow. Look for hair further from the base of the tail.

As you are building the head, pull the hair back and wrap a few very loose wraps toward the back of the head over the bucktail. Come forward and whip finish.
