Once i can track down some magpie tail feathers.
The american magpie is protected under the Migratory Birds Act, so i have to try to get them from europe. Lets see how that goes.

Thanks for the info.

Today I had a go at a free style fly. I call her Isabella.
Background as follows. Jan 27 was the first birthday of my only daughter. Her middle name is Isabella (first name Aoibheann [Irish name]). So i thought to commemorate one year I'd tie a fly and name it after her. As it happens, this is the first freestyle fly I've ever tied.
Colors have some significance
Pink - for a girl
White - There was a huge snow storm the night she was born
Gold - what girl doesn't like shiny things
Brown - she has the most beautiful brown eyes
Grey/dun - just compliments the pink I believe

Here's the fly

s fontinalis,

The wife and I love the Irish names, as she's 99.9% Irish. (I'm just an English/ German mutt). We have two boys, Brendan & Ryan - both good Irish names, selected to preserve her heritage with my last name. How do you pronounce "Aoibheann"? Can you spell it phoenetically?

BTW - To keep the thread on topic, today I learned to tie the Gold Rib Hares Ear and the Pheasant Tail Nymph... Once I do a better job at tying them, I"ll post photos.
