THey're tied so the hook swims up, but they have no weight. My guess is the dubbing throat and belly hold water and they swim up. Purely speculative, i've never tested it or cared to look in the water when i fished them. Oversight on my part i suppose

Looks like a winner for springtime Bass . I'll have to tie one up and throw it in the bathtube to see how it swims.

Today? Nothing fancy, and no photos, but I set-up to tie at the local LL Bean, as part of a "fishing sale" and demo that they sponsored. They had someone running a casting clinic, a health department rep had a booth on prepping / eating fresh-water fish, a table with maps and regulations, and a table of tyers. While things were slow I finished up my flies for the Spring Brook Trout Swap (headed to the Post office on Monday, Mark!), but then things picked-up.....

We had a BLAST helping folks from age 4 to 74 tie Wolly Worms. All kinds of color combinations, some wanted a gold wire rib, others didn't. We let them pick-out their own hackle, so there were ALL various lengths and colors, but it was a load of fun!!! And what a sense of accomplishment some of them exhibited as they put their hand tied fly into a box to take home and show off.

It was one of those rare opportunities to "pass it on" to someone who doesn't know or understand fly fishing, and it really felt good. I know that the club (I just joined two months ago) does a similar tying demo at a local county fair, so I'll be sure to sign-up to help after today's fun!
