Default The Many Faces of Mickey Finn

When I first started tyin' flies, I was under the impression that all Mickey
Finns were tied with silver tinsel body, oval silver tinsel, a wing composed of three equal parts of yellow, red, yellow bucktail, and a black thread head. I was wrong. I have found (and created) variations raging from small adjustments in the wing colour amounts( red equal to both parts yellow) to mixed fibres, givin' the fly an almost orange apperance, to mylar bodies and red tags, to peacock herl toppins' and red yarn butts. My question is what type do you tie, and whats the most unusual variation you've heard of??

Cool you asked this. I tie a GARTSIDE SOFTHACKLE version. Except I wrap the Marabou from the tip like a nymph softhackle.
I use a streamer hook, and I attach flashabou up at the eye with about two strands going down each side. I then Wrap one Red and one Yellow marabou (like I said, by the tip of the feather) on the front 1/4 of the hook (by the eye, so the back 3/4 of the hook is naked).
Killer pattern and I was calling it the Hulk Hogan for awhile but it is basically a version of a Micky Finn.

Darn nice Micky Joni,

I will have to make a few of my twist on the pattern. I have none at this time to display other than the common variety. I tie one with married wings and a short palmered rib on the body. They are pretty but I haven't found them to be any more effective than the original pattern.

Steelhead, the link has two HTTP annotations in it, and the second one is missing the colon. If you trim out the second http// it works ok.
