I have seen many wild brookies in my day. Not many are portly like this wild one is.

The really amazing thing is this trout was caught way up in the headwater and this is a male brook trout.

This is not brooder sow that eats until it is about explode.

Interesting......I've never seen a Brookie with a belly that big, must have lots of food to eat.

I've seen a lot of Driftless trout with expanded bellies right after a rain as they gorge themselves on scuds and such dislodged. Could be that... You could actually feel some of the casings etc in their belly if you rubbed it gently.
