How long of a day are you looking at? I have a friend that leaves Marquette, Michigan, drives downstate to hit a river and go to a fly shop and comes back that evening. A couple of hours of fishing is all he's looking for I guess. To me, it's not worth my time to be pushed through a day hurrying to the next step.

You should be aware, that while trout fishing is an admirable activity, fishing for bluegill can be truly rewarding. The bluegill can turn sideways and offer the ever desired pole jiggle that so many fly fisher persons find satisfying. There are some books out there regarding fly fishing for bluegill. There are thousands of trip opportunities within a day turn around from Chicago. Don't be a fly fishing elitist think about the other species that can offer as much or even more fun than the trout; some even taste better.
