If you have an actual shop nearby go there and put hand on the rods, No one can tell you what you will like. As fred said above for the fishing you described I would go no longer than 11' , TFO, Echo, Sage, Gloomis et al have rods in that range. I would go 5 or 6 wt if you plan to only fish the places you described. I would also like Fred said stick to a scandi head and running line or one of the new Rio Switch lines. as has been stated get some lessons(which is the second reason to visit a shop, I guide out a freinds shop and they always throw in an hours worth of lessons when they sell a rod) they will greatly flatten the learning curve for you. Once you have gotten it down the limits are endless.
