Orvis is having a sale on their Battenkill Bar Stock reels. I picked up one of their sizeV reels for my 8wt spey rod. It doesn't have the best drag, you probably wouldn't want to use it for salmon but it seems to work just fine for what I'm catching in the lower American. The winter steelhead are going to be interesting, we will see how that goes, but for $89, you can't complain!

One more to consider. Its hard to beat the LL Bean Quest, especially for the price, but even price excluded for a basic quality reel. Actually a Scierra D-Lite which seems to be available over the counter worldwide except the USA, and with LLBean you cant beat their service. I have a #2 so if any one wants any detailed pics not found on line.

Well, after watching auctions for a while I went ahead and ordered the Okuma Integrity... only $42 from Amazon (with free shipping). It might be a bit on the light side, but I can add some weight if need be. Also ordered some 30lb backing. So that's line, rod, and reel for less than the original cost of the rod. Just need a leader and some big ole' salmon flies and I'm good to go when the fall run starts... oh, and I should probably learn to cast the bugger. The bargain hunter in me is pleased.
