Fred, and anyone else who is interested, Terenzio of Italy makes a Silk spey line. They now weave lines with an "artificial" silk that doesn't require the fastidious maintenance of the originals, but it still must be dressed. Barrio of England is working on some Spey lines, don't know if any will be DT or not. I like their SH DT lines very much.
Ard and fredaevans like this.

1. Determine the weight of the line per foot of line. This needs to be done exclusive of the front taper.
2. Determine what the optimum grain window is for your rod.
3. Strip out this amount of line and determine a cast to aereolize it efficiently.
4. Use an appropriate cast get the line fishing.

The modern spey rod can handle some deviation from the norm. But generally I have my best success if the casts are going to be made all at about the same length.
That's all we usta use on spey rods back in the day! just up line by two and cast enough line to load the rod, you'll find the spot!
