Default High Treason

So a friend of my saw salmon jumping while out fishing for smallmouth last week, so we're headed out for salmon today. Unfortunately my rod has yet to arrive so I have to make due with my spinning set-up. In that regard, does anyone have any lure suggestions for river fishing for salmon with a cheater-stick?

Thanks!

I would use whatever the locals catch them on.

I meant that if you have no fly rod and the locals are having success with a certain type of lure, spinner or spoon, then I would get a few and have a go at them. catching salmon is better than being on the bench. If you are going to release the fish then a single hook lure is in line.

Also to add what Ard has said,it doesn't hurt to try a few different makes & Coloured Lures as we all known fish are also like ourselves funny creatures, what you catch them on today they might not work tomorrow.

Caught a decent size channel cat which jumped once on the way in (weird), thought it was a steelie in the wrong place just because the way it was fighting. Also caught a rock bass. Had a few bumps but unfortunately did not bring in a salmon. My buddy brought in a 22# female, however.

Now... *cover your ears children* WHERE IS MY $^*&$ FLY ROD?!?! I'VE WAITED LONG ENOUGH!!! *symbols added for dramatic effect*

I'm tired of using my spinning set-up! By the time my 8wt arrives I'll be ordering a 5wt too...
