Default Broken Ankle...time to take up fly tying

Yeah, looks like I broke my ankle and will have surgery next week. This will limit my winter fishing for sure, but luckily we have some urban fishing here in Albuquerque that has handy capped access... But, since I will have some down time I will need to take advantage and start learning how to tie.

I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for you, James! Hopefully until then the rest of us forum-dwellers will post plenty of photos so you can fish vicariously through us, and don't hesitate to join me on the dark side... fly tying!!

Hi James,

Sorry to hear you are injured, I believe there will be a beginner level Tie Along thread this winter. If you navigate to the Fly Tiers Round Table forums you can find some of the other Tie Along threads there. These have been hosted by Pocono in the past and they are good interactive learning programs because you can post questions and your own work as well.

Ugh...Sorry about the leg and hope you heal well. My local FF club has a tieing class every month after the regular meeting. Maybe there's something like that close to you? -m

Thanks for the well wishes guys, I have already been getting involved in the tyers forum, I just gotta get some tools and material, but Santa is on the way with that. I will be sure to post some pics of my first creations there. Luckily here in Albuquerque we have some stocked catch and release ponds right in the middle of down town as well as a rocky bottom ditch just off the Rio Grande that are stocked in the winter with trout. The area down town has handycapped access and is pretty easy to get to, so I can do some fishing down there even if I have to use a chair, hahahaha.

James: Sorry about the broken ankle, but it sounds like you're headed in the right direction. Good luck with the surgery and the healing.

I believe it was the patagonia catalog, but I saw a young guy in a wheelchair fly fishing from the bow of a flats skiff. I'll try and track down the photo as inspiration!
