Did your camera survive? In case this happens to anyone else, first thing, DO NOT TURN IT ON. If it was on when it went swimming turn it off immediately. Remove the battery and the chip, get as much water out of it as you can, then stick the whole works in white rice. It wouldn't hurt to put it while it's in the rice in then the warmest spot in the house. When it's as dry as it's ever going to get, then see if it survived it. Sometimes you get lucky.

another vote for the pentex optio cameras, well under your 350 range, waterproof, shockproof and they work well. I believe there are several threads about waterproof cameras on the forum and quite a few members with the optios.

Correction - I bought my w80 for $200 on sale, but it looks like they are at $300 now if you can find them. the WG1 looks interesting, but I don't have one so can't comment on quality.
