Default Why are razor blades so $$$$?

I've wondered this for a while and just happened to come across this, doesn't explain why they are so expensive, but does offer another option to save $$$. And it's rather fun to watch.

I don't care who you are, that right there is funny! Awesome video.

The sad truth about disposable razors is they are one of the highest theft items in retail. We pay for the fact that they get stolen more than just about any other item.

Any razors sold at swap meets are stolen...period. That's why the packaging has gotten bigger over the years, to make them too big to stuff in pockets.

Best ad ever! My brother has been doing the shave club for a few years now. He's a military guy and sheriff. Dealing with prisoners alot he shaves his head every day so he really makes out on that deal.
I havent tried it because my beard is course and thick after it grows in and the only thing I could find that works is the Mach 3.

Pretty funny John! I liked that.

The way to get real mileage from a blade is as follows.

I shave once every 2 weeks.

I use a Braun electric with a trimming blade to knock it down to where a blade like the Mach 3 will handle the rest.

This works pretty well but if you need a clean shave every day these new blades seem to last a long while. It's like the difference between mowing the lawn every 3 days or once a month..........

Boy I don't miss shaving every day. Between having a beard and being in Colorado I can get away with cleaning up just once a week. If I was still in Michigan I'd look into this deal, looks like it is worth a try, those razors got pricey.

I don't spend that much on shaving since I retired- I wear a full beard and shave when I feel like it.
My beef is this: I use a Gillette Sensor. Can't buy the handle any more but I can still buy the blades. But it seems they're making the blades crappier to force me to up grade to a newer model. Either that or I'm a cynical, paranoid curmudgeon.

You can still get the razor (handle) at some high end shaving suppliers (maybe Art of Shaving).

But my blades are not expensive. I use the highest priced double edge razors, Japanese Feather blades. They work great. I use them for 3-4 shaves depending on beard length. I think I pay about $0.25 for each. Boils down to $2-3 a month and they are super sharp and comfortable.

Every fly fisher should convert to traditional shaving like their grandfather taught them. You do not need a can of goo or a battery operated 5 bladed plastic razor which cost $5 a blade. You need a proper preparation, Proraso, a badger brush, and a vintage safety razor.

You'll save money in the long run and can teach your grandson how to shave like a gentlemen.
