My parents had a robin that would maul the glass picture window at their house in the spring. It'd start with a thud, then some funny pecking sounds then usually another thud.

Great shots! Which P&S are you working with? They do indeed have a mind of their own, but with a little work can produce some lovely images. Well done!

Thanks Sep! it's the Nikon AW100. The further I stray from Auto mode the more questionable things get. hah.

Nice shots Carl.

The P&S is always a hassle if you think to much...it is what it is.

Late night, with the dark of the deepest winter night pressing at my window pane brings thoughts of better days to come.
This picture was taken June of 2006 with my Kodak 4600.

Seems to be the case I'm learning,
also noticed that if I take lots of extra pictures occasionally something comes out cool.
Very different then my more methodical rangefinder shooting.
But those cameras don't like water...

You have absolutely distilled the essence of P&S here. Dean is spot on. Don't think too much. Let your instincts for light and composition point the thing and then just shoot. And shoot and shoot and shoot. Some surprising results regularly seem to crop up.

And speaking of crop, don't compose too tight. In these days of +12MP sensors, you can always frame how you want it in "post." Good photo editing software is an essential accessory for the P&S.

Just my two cents...

I've been looking at my 2 old yard chairs out there since Thursday and thinking I should take a picture. Yesterday I even went so far as to leave the camera on the dinning table all day long. The fog never lifted; we get a fog thing going on because of the Ocean Inlet being close. It puts a heavy frost on everything but I wanted a sliver of sunlight for a picture. Slivers are about it at this time of year, the sun is only above the horizon for 5 hours and it stays low like 'sunset' throughout its trip across that horizon. Now that you understand that I post the picture.

I thought 'Not Today' was good for this.
