I think this one may be classified as a Southern Pacific Rattlesnake, being quite dark or melanistic. This one was shot in the same vicinity back in the 1940's and is on display in a Forest Service office. Supposedly held the record for length for a spell @ 8'6". I was told where to find this baby Blue Jay that fell form the nest today,, couldnt pass up a photo. tho chance of survival is slim.
