Here is a view of Redoubt Volcano taken from about 30 miles away. The water visible in the foreground is Cook Inlet. The steam plume is actually emitting from the back side of the mountain but appears to be coming out the top of the cone.

Frank: How true! I just can't get enough pictures and stories of AK.

Ard: Great photo of Mt Redoubt, did you get any ash fall out from the eruption?

Larry,

The plume seen in the photo is mainly steam but Homer had a pretty significant event with ash fall last week. The area from the Deshka River all the way out to and beyond Shell Lake got about 1/4" of it. Those are the only places I have seen myself.

Ard: Wow, that is a lot of ash! I didn't hear anything in the news about the impact of ash and was kind of wondering.
