Default What do I need in my fly box?

Just getting started chasing trout in Missouri, probably mostly on the Current, Meramec, and occasionally a trip down to the White River. I need to know what my fly box should hold for trout

Up to now I've been a spin and baitcasting fisher, mostly chasing smallmouth with mepp's spinners and plastics in the Meramec by Cuba. I figure on using clouser minnows and wolly buggers for them there. I'd welcome any suggestions on what else to fish with if anyone has any.

Kev,
I will defer to the people who fish those rivers for their favorite flies. I take that back. You should always have a selection of various buggers and Clousers with you wherever you go.

If you want to do a little leg work on your own do a Google search for "hatch chart (name of river)." These hatch charts usually tell of the bugs that are seasonally on the water and some examples of the flies.

For example, "hatch chart Current River" leads to this website first in a Google search.

Good luck on your search.

I'd stock up on:

Wooly buggers- Olive, black, and ginger in sizes 6 through 10

Mohair leeches- Olive, black, and ginger, sizes 6 through 10

Elk Hair Caddis- Tan and Olive, sizes 14 through 20

Parachute Adams, sizes 14 through 20

Pheasant tail nymphs (regular and beadhead)- sizes 14 through 22

Hare's ear nymphs (regular and beadhead) sizes 14 through 16

Crackleback (Dry fly) sizes 12 through 16

Scuds, size 12 through 18

Caddis larvae imitations, size 14 through 20

Stonefly imitations, size 4 through 10

A few hoppers, foam ants and beetles ought to round things out. Good luck!
