Default Desert Noob...

Good day all... I stumbled upon this site looking for fly fishing information on the all-knowing World Wide Web. I've lurked for about a week or so and signed up a few days back so that I could join in on the discussions and learn even more. I've never fly fished before, but it's been something I've always wanted to try... so I bought a little starter setup from Cabelas.... I haven't even been able to get my line wet yet and I'm anxious to try it out.

I "spinner" fish every year in Nevada (Early Spring, Late Fall, Winter) and California during the rest of the year... I don't do lakes, but I a river/stream kind of guy. This last summer was my most productive year in the Sierra Nevada Mts, with many 3+ lbers caught. It's not necessarily about the fish (unless I'm fishing with my buddies where we get a little competitive) but just being out on the water, relaxing and soaking up nature.

I live in Dayton, Nevada so if there are any other Sierra Nevada experts around, it be great to see how you pros fish and maybe I might actually learn something before I lose an eye... anyway, looking forward to the wealth of knowledge here and good times as well...

Justin welcome to the forum—we do have a bunch of folks out your way.
You might want to check out this search link for Trout Unlimited Chapters to see if there’s one near you --- it’s a great way to jump start your fly fishing career, most chapters have group trips, casting clinics, informative meetings etc.

Council-Chapter Search | Trout Unlimited - Conserving coldwater fisheries

Feel free to ask questions, but browse through some of the old threads and FAQs- there's a ton of info

Welcome to the forum, there are a few of us in Nevada on this forum. I am up in Cold Springs (just north of Reno). I fish the Truckee all the time, as do a few others on here, but I also fish some streams and still waters in CA. Looking to hit Pyramid one of these days as well. I prefer the rivers and streams, like you, but also enjoy a nice still water fishery on occassion, and even get the float tube, pontoon, or old crestliner out during the warmer months.

Good to have you on board.

Dave

Thanks guys for rolling out the welcoming parade... the deeper I search through the threads, the more information I digest and I can't wait to put it into practice.

Dave, I read that you were wanting to get a group of N. NV/ E. CA together for an outing... let me know if anything materializes.... I'd love to soak up the action with some experienced fly fishers...

Thanks again everyone...

Justin
