Default G'day

Hello all,

Just found this site. Looks like a good resource for a fisherman. I'm looking forward to finding my way around it.

Regards,
Tony.

Hi Tony,

Welcome to the forum. What do you fish for around Sydney? Looking forward to hearing about your fishing in Australia.

Hi Frank,

I like to chase trout but need to drive at least 2 hours to the Blue Mountains or about 5 hours to the Snowy Mountains area, near the NSW/Victoria border. In fact I do most of my trout fishing in my home country - New Zealand. Much more water and bigger fish there.

Around Sydney the saltwater fishing is pretty good though. Bream, Flathead, Snapper, Tailor, Kingfish, Bonito and Australian Salmon (Kahawai) etc. will all take a fly and most would pull a few trout backwards. Sydney Harbour, Pittwater and the Hawkesbury River all offer plenty of opportunities close to where I live.

Regards,
Tony.

Tony.

Sounds like you have a lot to choose from. Is there a lot of open water to fish in New Zealand or is it mostly private property? I have talked to some fishers from Australia and they were bass fishing with bass tackle. Is there any bass around Sidney? Are you a fly tyer? Sorry for all of the questions but I don't know any fly fishers from Australia.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.
