Default New Member from Alberta

First post from a new member from Southern Alberta, Canada

I picked up a fly rig this past winter to offset the loss of a couple of other hobbies, and to give me another excuse to get out of doors!

I've been on the Sheep this June at some serious high water levels just to get out and cast in running water, walked into the Highwood in July to throw some flies and spend a half day by myself and waded the Oldman with some friends on a shared day off. Just last week I took my first guided float trip on the Bow, accompanied by landing my first fish, a nice 18" rainbow, followed by a few whitefish, a little brown, and a nice large brown that wasn't landed, but seeing it jump out of the water on the end of my line was one of the most exciting experiences I've had out of doors!

I'm eagerly awaiting another day out before most of the rivers close for the season, and looking for a reel for my new 4wt St. Croix Imperial!

Hi there Chad. Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure that if I was in Alberta I would be watching the water or looking for fossils. I'd be horribly torn.

An 18" Rainbow Trout (I'm sure it's wild, too) is a major accomplishment. Congratulations on your new addiction.

Welcome to the board!

Add my welcome to the above. Been ages since I've fished in your area and it was a total hoot.

Hey Chad, congrats on the first fish! I'm you neighbor just to the South a few hours. I've done some study and research about your area...I've heard wonderful things about the Bow and Elk rivers.

Checkout "The Humblefisherman" on Youtube. This guy explores deep into some wild Alberta streams and rivers. Just awesome.
