Hello from Berkeley CA

Hi all,
my name is Ben
I'm new to this sport only about 2 months now and having a blast learning. What a great way to get outside and have some fun. First trip was to Jackson WY, Great fish great people. Any info on Bay area fishing?
Thanks

Ben welcome to the board.

Probably your best source of info is going to be Lelands (sponsor of this site) Their store is in Union Square, and they have a reports page on their site. They can fill you in on opportunities around the Bay Area.

There’s a fly casting pool in Golden Gate Park too, as you probably know.

Best advice I could give you though would be to join a club like a chapter of Trout Unlimited. You’ll learn a ton, and it will really help with your learning curve. Go to their main site Home | Trout Unlimited - Conserving coldwater fisheries to find a chapter near you. TU Chapters typically have monthly meetings on where to go, techniques etc, offer casting clinics, tying classes, group trips, etc as well as support for conservation.

Another org worthy of your support is CalTrout, but they do mostly conservation stuff with opportunities to volunteer on projects.
Other resources for you are the Fly Shop in Redding (you can google) for more fishing reports etc.

Lots of SW opportunities as well, for striped bass in the bay, and off shore, as well as some beach fishing for surf perch etc.
Some info on SW beach fishing near you for surf perch here:
Glenn Yoshimoto's Zen Fly Fishing

BTW, there are a bunch of folks on this board that are out your way, so keep posting

Good luck, and again, welcome aboard.
