Default New guy from the Colorado Front Range!

Hi all.
Been living here for a while but after visiting the fly fishing expo earlier this month, I am eager to take up the sport this year. I know I will enjoy all aspects from the technique, research, skill, patience and solitude.

They say a 9' 5WT is the standard do-it-all rod, but what are most people using for the streams on the Front Range? Of course I won't be expecting that trophy any time soon, but I wouldn't mind having the capability to reel one in if need be.

Hi,

I used to live in Colorado Springs, very good and diverse place to live. I'll watch for your posts here and talk to you then.

Hi Autospirit,

Welcome to the forum. I am glad you found fly fishing and this forum.

The 5wt rod is a pretty good choice for trout. If you feel under gunned you could consider a 6wt. The 6wt use to be the standard weight choice that the 5wt now holds. Today we have much better rods and I think that contributed to the popularity of the 5wt.
