Default Hi all from Oklahoma

Hello.

I am new to the site here, and new to fly fishing as well.

First, a little background is in order i guess..

I am 33 yrs old, married, with 4 kids. I have been fishing ever since i can remember. A few years ago, i was "forced" into fly tying by my brother in law. I got a tying kit that included most of what is needed to at least get started and went from there.

My fly gear managed to get pushed to the back of the closet after about 6 months of tying.. (mind you, this was two or three years ago at least)

I recently went through a "mid life crisis" and purchased a CRAZY fast motorcycle, which lasted all of two months before it was sold for a fishing boat.

Last summer was my all time best fishing year. I went fishing at least two or three times a week all spring, summer, and into the fall. Over the winter, my fly tying equipment started calling my name... So this time, instead of just tying flies, i decided that i want to throw them around some too!

SO... now i own an "Okuma" Cascade 9 foot, 5 weight fly rod/ reel combo. and a dollar general dvd of fly fishing basics.

Anyway..... everyone expect some serious questions from me cause i have no clue what im doing!! (I can tie the daylights out of some flies though!!!)

Okiefly,

Welcome to the forum, we have a bunch of folks on here from OK, so I'm sure you'll get a lot of good advice on local where to go stuff. And folks are pretty helpful here so ask away if yo have questions. We also have a few fly swaps going on, so feel free to jump in on any of those.

You should have a blast with your fly rod, and it sounds like you have the flies covered.

Hi okiefly,

Welcome to the forum. I am glad you are going to give fly fishing a serious try. Don't be bashful about asking questions. The Search tool can be very helpful.

Welcome to the forum, I'm a newbie too, Names Dave, and as Frank and Peregrines (Mark) said, lots of good folks, fly swaps and great info on this site. For me, it was catching my first fish on a dry fly that got me hooked (no pun intended), and now, while I still fish the streamers, I really keep the eyes peeled for rising trout. Not that I'm a dry fly purist, just that it is so much fun watching and catching them fish when they hit the floaters.

I am sure i will learn alot.

I don't think i am ready to start trading flies with anyone just yet... I don't want to make anyone mad by sendign them my crappy flies. I don't even know if they will catch fish, but they sure are fun to make!!!
