Default Hello newbie here from kansas

Hello my name is Edgar. I am new to fly fishing. In terms of beginner where should i start? What kind of equipment do i need? Looking into getting my first fly rod and reel combo here soon. Any one recommend a good one for a beginner to start on? I figured i would join this site and ask some questions! Glad to be here. Thanks.

Edgar

Hi Edgar,

Welcome to the group, you will get plenty of suggestions but while you wait for them to come in do some experimenting with the "Search" box here. Just look at the control bar at the top of this thread and you will spot it. Click and it will drop down a text box, type in words or phrases like 'Beginner Rod' etc and start reading through the threads from many who have had your same questions.

Edgar: Welcome to the forum and the great sport of fly fishing! Others will provide some good tips on starter outfits, but like Ard suggested, give the search function a try, you will be amazed at the wealth of information on this site and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Eddienot easy to advise a rod for a beginner...try rods from friends or from a flyshop then decide the one you feel at ease with...according to the money you want to spend. It's possible to find a very good rod at a great price.

Hi Eddie,

Welcome to the forum.

I missed this thread but saw your picture in the Face to Name thread. I am sure we can help you get started. We need a little information to help you out.

1. Do you have a budget in mind that you want to spend on a fly rod, reel and fly line?

2. What fish do you have available in your area?

3. Is there a local fly shop that you can get to?

4. Have you fished before but just not fly fished?

Frank

4. I bass fish all the time. I just want to get started in Fly Fishing. Never have fly fished before but figure its time to start trying!
