- About dhaynes
- I began fly fishing in my late teens on the Smith River in Southwest Virginia. The Smith has become a major tailwater fishery but in my day it had not received its current aclaim. I was pretty much self-taught and not very good at it by any stretch of the imagination. You can read my intro bio under introductions.
I gave up fishing for a long while.. A stint in the USAF, college, grad school and being an academic gypsy for a while took me away. Then kids, coaching kid sports, and getting on with my career didn't leave much time for fishing.
I tried again about 12 years ago but it didn't take. Then about 3 years ago, being an empty nester, I talked my wife into taking an intro class and she fell in love with it. Now we fish several times a week during season and about once a week in winter. Our local fishery is the Gunpowder in Maryland but Beaver Creek, Morgan Run, Little Falls and the Savage (among others) are close enough for short trips. The limestoners of south central PA are a short drive. We've also managed a couple of trips to Colorado to visit our son but we combine it with fishing RMNP and the Front Range Streams.
We are also very active in our local TU chapter...
