I started fishing with a fly rod in 1947 when I was 12 years old. During my teen years I worked in a fly shop and back packed all over the California high Sierras. I struggled for several years with my casting until I spent one day at the casting club at the San Francisco Golden Gate Park. That one day watching some really good casters and a few hints from them really turned my casting around. When I was about 19 years old I started making my own weight forward fly lines from double taper fly lines. I have lived and fished in most of the good places in the lower 48 states and Alaska. I have fly fished in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. I lived and fished in Alaska from 1974 to 1989. I have my private pilot’s license and have flown most of Alaska. In 1974 I stated tying flies and still tie today but not very often. I have used a pontoon boat since they first came available and it is my favorite way to trout fish. My favorite fishing is big water fishing for trout, steelhead and salmon.
