- My name is John, married to Pam aka...Mrs fysh, (who likes to fish even more than I do.) We have 3 kids. Our 23 year old daughter Samantha and 2 yellow labs that go by Cooper and Lexi.
I've been tossing flies since roughly 1978 when my Dad bought me an Eagle Claw 'Sweetheart' fiberglass rod and a Garcia clicker reel. His intention was to keep me out of trouble.....it worked for the most part until I discovered girls.
I spent many hours on a small local lake when I was teenager and was lucky enough to befriend a local fisherman who also happened to be a F&G Biologist, his name was Chuck Nielson.
He taught me how to cast and the basics of entomology, I'll always be very indebted to him for his teaching and patience. And the big Rainbow's and Cutt's we used to catch with the truck headlights shining on the edge of the lake were amazing. Fishing was so simple back then, all we ever used were Woolly Worms and Double Renegade's.
Later on in my early 20's I met another fellow on The Green River, he was from Kentucky and his name was Howard Patterson, he became another mentor for me. He would fly out West a couple times a year and fish with me on the Henry's Fork and The Green River below Flaming Gorge. He has since passed on, but his teachings will be used and passed on some day hopefully to a future grandchild.
I tell our daughter that her first child needs to be a boy. LOL! Keeping my fingers crossed.
I met my wonderful wife and fishing partner, Pam, in 97' and have enjoyed teaching her the things I've learned over time, she continues to amaze me with her ability to catch more and bigger fish than me. I act like it bothers me, but inside I'm happy for her. She's my best friend ever.
We live in northern Utah and fish Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and occasionally Utah.(we now fish Utah even less, Thanks to the Governor and wonderful state legislature). There's still hope that Utah's idiotic access laws will change, but the litigation will take a few more years and much more money unfortunately.
During the year we spend most of our time throwing streamers on the South Fork of the Snake with our buddy Davo, fishing small dries to large Rainbow on The Henry's Fork, or fishing the Madison with Andy Pappas (a friend and guide who works for Erick's fly shop in west Yellowstone). If you need a guide for the area he's a great guy to have row you down the river.
Most recently (thanks to Andy) we have become infected with 'Steelheaditus'. It sounds terrible, but what a wonderful game it is and I look forward to playing for many years to come.
I LOVE USING THE TWO-HANDED ROD!!!!!
Pam is a Dental Hygienist, sells 'Scentsy' Warmers in her spare time, and if that's not enough....she's also the Program Coordinator for Casting For Recovery in Utah.
I work for ENVY Composites, a large custom bike part manufacturer, we specialize in carbon fiber parts. In the future I'd like to apply my carbon fiber knowledge towards making my own custom rod blanks....maybe someday.
I love the Fremont Silver Wolves, Utah Jazz, Denver Broncos, Ice Cold Beer, Good Scotch(Glenlivet), and a great Steak with Mushrooms. lol! - Location

This weekend Pam and I headed to The South Fork to celebrate our Anniversary. The water has been very high all Summer and has only come down to fishable and safe floating levels over the last couple weeks, needless to say it's been a tough season with no "water therapy" on our favorite river.
This being our Anniversary I bought Pam a new rod(ok it was a very lightly used, well taken care of rod that I picked up from Paul aka "IMXER"), a Loomis GL4 9' 6wt that will...
