- I started fishing in early 70's with my father, every Friday night we would go to the river and throw some corn or cooked potatoes in the water to attract fish. The next morning at 5am we would go to that spot and fish , we had bamboo rods , floats made out of bird feather bone painted red , box of maggots and box of worms , big lunch and I mean four course meal which was supposed to last until dark .
On many occasions when we got to our previously fed pool of water there was already somebody fishing there .Then the arguments would start who's spot that is , I was just watching my father argue with the other person over that particular spot and I knew that in the end they were going to share it anyway and at the end of the day they would call each other by their first names . We were fishing mostly for Carp , Catfish or Pike which was a real treat back in the old country . There were times when we would bring home 15 or 20 fish , which made my mother really angry since she had to stay up half the night and clean the fish .
Once I reached teenage years I lost interest in fishing and I stayed away from it until I came to Canada . Once here I learned how to fish again , different species of fish , much more aggressive , fishing gear which back home I could only see in the pictures , access to boats , fishing cabins , ice fishing ... basically anything I could imagine. But most of all the amount water, lakes and rivers was just overwhelming before I got used to the idea that there is enough fishing places here where I could go and not worry that someone took my spot.
After few years of fishing mostly for Bass , Pike and Walleye I stopped again , this time I got married .
Now I want to fish again only this time much more simpler way , with old Bamboo Fly Rod ,old Finalist #1122 Reel , pair of Waders ,old wooden Fish Net and a box of Flies which I am hoping to make myself.
