Default Fishing near Ft. Lee, VA

I'm currently stationed at Ft Lee for AIT and unfortunately there isn't really anywhere on post to go fish. If anyone knows the area its right near Petersburg/Hopewell/Colonial Heights. I noticed on google maps that there are several lakes right across Hwy 144 and the Appomatox River is right there as well. Is there anything else nearby? Is any of this worth checking out?
