castinthesurf is on a distinguished road
Default Just before the rain...

With the warm weather for the last day and a half it really turned one of the local ponds on. Decided to try a spot i had never been to, but had recentLy heard of. Started with a black 2" shannons minnow really slow. AND Bam! A large mouth came out of nowhere! Spit the hook two feet from shore. WOW! A couple more slow cast and a follow up or two from mid size crappie.....thought to myself, there is a lot of life showing activity. Moved over into main current and changed to a streamer that was easier to see. Imediately got a knot. Worked it out, cast out and did a way to fast retrieve to gather the line.......BAM, then BAM, then BAM, then BAM! Monster crappie and largemouths where coming out of the wood work! Literally. I wish i had a trailer hook. The fish where hiding out in about four to five feet of water and when the fly was brought in fast, probably the fastest I have ever retrieved they where tearing it up! I was so shocked, my mind set was still slow and patient. They all where short striking, as I said I wish i had a trailer hook, but man, the life was incredible. Landed a good number and had five times that take a swipe. Then the rain set in and it was as if the place was devoid of life. What a day!
