That is one way to thin down the seal population, but sure makes it dangerous for anyone going in the water.

5-6 years ago while fishing the beach I saw a seal get picked off the surface by a great white, maybe 150 yards out.
No one else noticed, there was nothing to say. I just kept fishing.

The seals are thick though
Last season while kayaking in Chatham harbor, I had well over 40 of them following me just because they saw my fishing rod

Wow, I had no idea they were that thick in your area, makes fishing a bit difficult when you have that many seals following you around waiting for the easy meal.

Larry, if we make an effort today, we might be able to save August.
August? For Christ sake, tomorrow's the Fourth of July.
And we will be open for business.
This will be the best summer we've ever had.
If you are concerned about the beaches do what you have to, to make them safe.
But those beaches will be open for this weekend.

Before the seal population exploded this was known to local fishermen as "big girl bar" because it was one of the best places around to catch a cow striper.
Now you won't find a striped bass anywhere near

Hmmm, and hasn't there been an explosion in shark fishing in recent years?
