I wonder if any US-based business will pick up on this opportunity?

New York I guess is the most obvious location for this type of 'English Gentleman's' store but where else do you think?

I dropped in on the Farlows London store last year. Aside from the prestigious Pall Mall address, I thought it was nothing special. Lots of fly shops in the US are better stocked with a wider selection. (Although if you are looking for a pair of Harris Tweed hunting knickers that Orvis stopped carrying 25 years ago, Farlows is your place.)

I agree,Farlow's is nothing special. It's all about the name.

Oops, I must correct myself:

Shooting Breeks / Holland & Holland Tweed Breeks -- Orvis

But Farlows beats Orvis on price:

Stock wise I wouldn't doubt many US stores are better stocked.
Farlows sister store just outside London has a greater range, casting ponds/lakes and tuition on site.
What Farlows do offer is a wealth of experience. Their sales assistants have fished pretty much everywhere globally and on that basis I find them very helpful, particularly with fly patterns etc and what needs to be changed/adapted to suit the local environment.
I wish the best of luck to them.
