Default Dam Break at Ennis Lake!!!

Hot off today's Breaking News in Southwestern Montana.

School bus-sized boulder damages Madison Dam - The Bozeman Daily Chronicle: News

This morning a Bus Sized Boulder fell off the cliff face on the western side of the Ennis dam. The Boulder apparently fell directly on top of the dam and has lodged itself in the face of the dam. A hydraulic line along with several of the spill way gates have been damaged. It appears they will be drawing down the lake some 9 feet or so in order to repair the damage. This all just happened this morning so I am sure that much of the information will be changing as more details become available to those involved with the assessment process. Rumor has it that there will be a reduction in flows on the upper river to accommodate the draw down of Ennis Lake. At this point nothing concrete has been released so we can only wait and see what happens in the next few weeks. I am sure it will make things interesting for the fall fishing season on the Madison.

I will try to re-post any additional information as it becomes available.

Biggie: Thanks for posting, that is very interesting. Kind of reminds me of the huge boulder that fell on the railroad tracks in the Wind River Canyon earlier this year.
