What flies to use along the Connecticuit River in July?

It's been years since I've been back to New England, but it looks like I'll have an evening/morning to fish southern Vermont or Northern Mass along the Ct. River, depending on where the lady puts us.

Question is, what flies should I use at that time of year there?

We land in Hartford, CT and will end up in Grafton, VT so she'll put us somewhere along that 91 corridor, only stipulation was it has to be on the water.

Any help is greatly appreciated as it's been years for me as it's been years since I've fished anywhere close to there.

Cheers!

John

You're going to want flies for smallmouth bass in the CT River and the lower stretches of it's tributaries.
Vermont is a no lead/ no felt state too.

The Deerfield river in northern MA and it's east branch in VT are tail waters and should have some good trout fishing still in July
I've fished the upper West River near Weston ( just west of Grafton) in the summer too along with a couple of the trout ponds in the national forest off the Kelley-Stand Rd

Smallies huh? I was hoping for trouts, as we get plenty of smallmouths at the cottage...and Florida is mostly bass inland. Many thanks for your reply though.

There's trout in the CT River, but much further up stream. And even there, in the heat of the summer, they'll be making themselves scarce
