I was told that right below the dam was good as the water will be cold. I actually checked it out recently. I didn't know how to get down below the dam as it was marked as no trespassing, but you can get to the river a bit further down.
The East Branch out beyond Roscoe looked promising, lots of risers but of the small variety. However, save for a carp, I got skunked. I have a feeling that they're fairly thick in there, I saw a lot of them but only ever saw small (real babies) trout.
