Default Fishing Trip April 18-26

Hello,

Planning a trip for some fly fishing during the last week in April. Plan to fish the Deerfield for a day (home river), the Farmington in CT (first visit, but plenty of info available online), and finally a NH river (undecided as of yet). Was wondering if anyone would be able to suggest some locations in NH for river trout fishing? Tough to find info for April fishing in NH. Would like to stay around North Conway. I'm aware the Saco, Ellis, and Androscoggin rivers are all a short drive, but none seem to be overly active (information wise) in the month of April. Which one of these would be a good shot and are there any others? Any info would be greatly appreciated! First post, won't be the last!

Regards,

TShaq

Things are going to be a little thin in northern NH in April. Stocking hasn't started and there's still a lot of ice around.

The Androscoggin and Pemigewasset are your best bets.

Welcome to the forum tshaq. Poke around a bit and you will be amazed with the information you find. April might be a bit early but the Pemigewasset (sp?) is always a good place to start. Find some open water and try a #14 Zug bug. Bring some gloves and a thermos though.

Excellent info. The Farmington trip sounds like it will be the most productive. Was going to head towards the North Conway area as the girlfriends has yet to see it. Would be more for her to do there than in the Farmington area I'm sure. Maybe I'll look into New York instead as the NH area in April doesn't appear to be all that promising. I'll keep up the research though!

Anyone with experience on the Sugar River in late April? Or is this an icy area as well this time of year?

Water is still very cold in northern NH in April. If you are on the Deerfield, consider going a little east to the Swift River, a tailwater fishery from the Quabbin Reservoir. Water stays a consistent temp.

With the snowpack this year, spring melt will prolong colder water.
