If it's trout you're after, then you can't go wrong fishing somewhere in Greater Yellowstone Country. Henry's Fork of the Snake, both upper and lower, South Fork of the Snake River, Henry's Lake, The Green River in Utah, along with the Provo, the Madison in Montana; the list goes on and on...

Maybe Salmon River in Pulaski, NY or the Western branch of the Delaware River.

End of September, I'd fish the landlock salmon run in the Rangely area, near Moosehead Lake, or at Grand Lake Stream in Maine
The run is highly dependent on an early spate of rain before the closed season, but the scenery is spectacular that time of year
