Default Tie Fast tool

I got a tie fast tool for Christmas and find it makes knot tying very easy. heres my question I have never heard of the gryp knot until i opend this tool. Is this a good knot for tippet to fly connection? how does its strength compare to other knots? It is very easy to tie with the tool. This tool really makes a nail knot easy to tie!

I have been thinking about one of those. I guess I just need to get one and try it. Thanks for the info

Hi jimw,

If you take a look at a nail knot you will see they are tied the same way. The trick to using the Tie Fast tool is to strip the line off of the took briskly. Hold you finger over the wraps as you add them then a quick pull and the wraps will pull out from under your finger and be in line on the knot.

I have a very early model and I found that with very light leaders were weaken if I wrapped to tight around the took. I solved that by taking a find stone and soften the edges where you wrap the line to be tided. Just barley touch them to remove any sharp edge. This may not be a problem with the tools made today.

I use mine primary to tie heavy materials together. It works well where you might use two Uni to Uni knots back to back

Frank

Default I received one for Christmas

I received one (actually 2) for Christmas, at my request/suggestion. I wanted one after I watched the Utube video. I use an improved clinch knot, and sometimes conditions (light, wind and etc. - I am over 45) make threading through those loops a bit of a pain.

I have not used it yet actually fishing, but when I practiced with it I was pleased. Also, the low cost is another plus. So far, I can tie on a fly as fast or faster than the old way, and I am less concerned about having missed a loop.

We are expecting better weather next weekend, and I am sure that I will be out fishing.

I have a tool that I use for nail knots and then I have what I think is called a ty rite. It holds the fly and you can twist it to make your clinch knot or improved clinch knot. Very helpful.

Just make sure to test each knot you tie. I tie several hundred knots a month using this tool. On a rare occasion, the knot tied will fail under very little tension. I think a wrap may get crossed and actuall cut thru the line when any pressure is applied. But overall, the tool works great.
