Few years ago, I purchased one on E bay , probably it came from China. That magnet release I am planning to replace. It just does not have holding power. Net comes off easy.

If you like the hemispherical magnets they run $2.10 apiece and less in quantity. The toy carabiners are also cheap, even at retail. So, I guess it is only a matter of what the consumer will pay, but $25 to $30 for these things is nuts. BTW, my net came with the magnetic release, but I am sure it added $20, or more, to the total cost. If it is allowed, I will post a source for rare earth magnets if anyone wants to know.
Thanks for the info.
Please provide the source for the items on this.

Here is a link to Lee Valley. This page will give you access to magnets, cups, and washers. I have no affiliation with this company, though I have been a happy customer for many years.

I've got three of these:

Magnetic Net Release with Coiled Lanyard Attachment Rings 2230 | eBay

They're very strong and will snap together from 2-3" away. The only thing I change is the snap hook. I cut it off and replaced it with a split ring for more security.

I bought the Dr. Slick. It was only $20 and the magnet seems to be very strong.
