Default McCloud

Hi,

So let's just say that after weeks of being confined in Southern California, my brain is about to burst and need a road trip. Memorial day is coming up.

Is it a good idea to even try to plan a trip up north from Los Angeles to the McCloud region with a whopping one week to plan the trip?

I'm pretty good with access points and maps, so know the exact areas I'd like to come up with.

Has anybody done a non-planned trip up North and can lend advice in this short period of time? After catching my first golden, I want to continue my quest for California's "Heritage" trout challenge, and McCloud redbands is definitely on that list.

I do now that the timing is quick off, but I'd appreciate any assistance.

As I've realized of late, I'm not getting any younger and the items on the Bucket List need to be crossed off.

Wish I could help but I havent been up there yet. Im living on the Mendocino coast for the summer. I am planning a weekend trip to that area in the coming weeks since I live about 6 hours away. Im excited to check it out. Haven't done much fishing and it is starting to drive me crazy. Back in VT this is prime fishing time.

I would call up The Fly Shop in Redding. Tell them what your plan is and they should be able to inform you about conditions and all the other info.
Good luck with your trip.

Give Bob Grace a call at Ted Fay Fly Shop in Dunsmuir, he'll be able to lead you in the right direction. Lots more water available in the region this time of year then there should be, you can blame to our abysmal snow pack.

Best time to go fishing is when you can find time to go fishing.
