Default Hawaii Freshwater "Clean Sweep"

I've only heard of one other person catching a Largemouth, a Smallmouth, and a peacock bass all in the same day... Well, I've seen it again....
and then some.

Probably the most difficult to catch is the small mouth bass. We've only recently seen them showing up in the lower reaches of the lake. (They are normally found in the swift flowing waters of the upper reaches of the North and South Forks where the water is colder.) Steve with his first Hawaiian Smallie.

In the "other" catagory... a nice hard fighting Oscar.

The largemouth we caught were under one pound, but not so the peacock bass.

Stan,

Those are some great fish. I'm especially interested in the peacock bass. Where in Hawaii did you catch those? The next time I go to the islands, I plan to bring my fly rods, but I'm curious where peacock bass can be found.

Cheers,

-VB

Freshwater fishing is only available on Kauai and Oahu. (there is also bonefishing) Our peacock bass average around 2 pounds with a 3 to 5 pounder not that uncommon. They feed exclusively on smaller fish so any fly that looks or acts like a little fish works fine. They are not leader shy.
We use 5wt and 6 wt rods and small streamer flys.

The only lake on Oahu is Wahiawa Res (Lake Wilson). It can be fished from shore in some places, but it's a lot easier from a boat.
