Default Help a returning Kuwait Serviceman go fishing

A little northern California forum help here if possible. My son is returning from Kuwait for the Christmas holidays. His US home is in Fairfield, CA north of San Francisco where his fishing wife is also located. He is unknowledgeable about fishing in this area and I would like to have someone show them the ropes. He has expressed interest in the Trinity, Feather, and Klamath aeas. Both are skilled fly fisher people. My son spent 4 years with me in Alaska where we operated our own remote fishing camp. He is in state from about Dec. 20 for two weeks. Contact me if you can help them out and perhaps take them fly fishing.

I would fish with your son if I could, but since I'm on the other side of the country I'll do the next best thing. Putah Creek is very near to home for your son and this time of year is great fly fishing except for during the brief Gortex hatch that occurs right after Xams. Attached is a map of Putah Creek below Lake Berryessa Dam. Fish the red highlighted stretches. This time of year try a silicone salmon egg (fluorescent orange), a Fox's Poopah, or a red or black midge. Fish the riffles and the fast, deep water just below the riffles.

Thank you sir, I will pass this along. Have a Merry Christmas. Look me up if you ever want to fish in Colorado or the Florida Keys. Please be my guest. I spend summers & fall in the mountains and winters and spring in the middle Florida Keys. Check this out:

Hello Capn. Ron, I'm new here myself, just started a few minutes ago.

If I were in Fairfield, CA. and knowing what I know about CA flyfishing, I'd send anyone to one of two places. Here:

Chico Fly Shop - fly fishing, fly fishing, fly fish shop, flyfish shop, fly fishing shop, flyfishing shop

That area has year round fly fishing.

The other place would be here:

Ted Fay Home

Your son and his wife will love talking with Bob and of course Joe.

Contacting either of these flyshops will bring info on all the waters and more that your son has suggested an interest in. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

MontanaMoose
