Default Snake River Float April 1ST 2011

Managed to make it out on the river yesterday. Had planned this float a couple of weeks ago with my friend and fellow forum member rusty r. At the last minute Russ found a third for us to fill out the boat, always better to have a full boat!!

Russ and Brian met me at 8:30 to grab some grub (fried chicken) and the off to the river. Got the boat launched and did our own shuttle still managing to start the float by 9:45. The day started out overcast with a little wind and a temp of about 45 degrees. By the end of the day it was sunny and 53 degrees. The wind pretty much cooperated all day with just a few gust but no real hard blowing.

The fishing was a bit slow but with the water temps around 40 degrees that's to be expected. Other than midges there was not much bug activity on the water. We only saw a few risers in a couple of spots. So we spent the day throwing streamers. I know what a shocker in my boat right!! I managed to bring one to the boat. I had several misses due to short strikes and slow fish. Had about 10 follows with no take as well. Brian pulled four to the boat putting the rest of us to shame.

All in all it was a great April Fools day!! Was awesome to get back on the oars again. I'm already thinking about next Friday and where to float!!

Thanks for stopping in!!. It was great to get out after the long winter. Not sure winter is really giving up yet looking at next weeks snow forecast. But yesterday was just the beginning of the season to come!! I will definitely be giving updates as the season progresses.

Thanks Pam!! Nice to fell those dormant muscles in my back and my casting arm!! With the higher flows on the SF we need to do a canyon float when the weather warms up a touch. Lokking like winter may stage a come back the next few days.

Good to see some new photos from you. Being brand new to this sport it has been interesting to watch the physical changes taking place in all of the members as the spring break up nears.

Attitudes getting aggressive, faces starting to get a ruddy complexion and everyones jaws are starting to stick out.

The start of a season approaching always makes anglers a little antsy!! As Spring gets into full swing and the days warm up there will be a lot more photos and fishing reports showing up on the forum!!

Davo: I hear you about winter not wanting to give up, we had a blizzard going about 4 am but it only dropped 3-4 inches of snow and quickly moved off to the east, that mostly melted off and another smaller round of snow it later in the afternoon.
