At the Wolcott exit off of I-70, turn north. Then take a right and just down the road you will see a pull off on the right and left side of the road. If you see the post office, you went too far.

You will see a fence and a private property sign, fish downstream of here. I drove by a couple weeks ago and there wasn't much ice, but it's been cold up there.

It will fish better once it warms up and just before run off.

You could also stay on that road and just before it heads under I-70, there's a pull off on the left. Park here and walk down to the river. Lots of good pools here to fish as well.

Honestly, I would fish a tailwater if you are up there...the Roaring Fork is fishing good, and the Frying Pan is awesome right now. The Blue is ok, and it's tough fishing since it gets pounded but it's good fish and it's right off the highway.

I'm assuming you are coming in to ski and looking to take a day fishing?

A lot of shops will hype up a river so they can get more guided trips out of it...

My buddy lives in Vail and hasn't fished the Eagle yet. He's waiting until just before runoff for when the rainbows start spawning. I would wait another couple weeks before making the effort to get up there.

If you're driving up from Golden anyways, pick a tailwater.

The yampa and pan are fishing awesome right now. Plus, since it's still winter, less crowded and less pressured fish. (Comparatively...the pan always gets hammered.)

The Eagle is very fishable now from Wolcott up. The people that tell you it's not that great are just old fogies that want to keep you out. It's one of the most under-rated fisheries in the state for numbers and size of trout. Should be gold medal water but that would just attract more people. If you cast they will come.
