Snake River Trip 04/21/2012

Greg and I hit the river for the 5th and final float for spring 2012. Compared to the previous day the weather was fantastic. Bright sunny cloudless skies all day. Temperatures ranging from upper 60's to low 70's depending on the wind.

Being such a beautiful Saturday everyone and their brother headed for the river. Thanks to the lovely warm weather the river was blown out both above and below the stretch we were floating. This resulted in a huge fiberglass hatch. At the put in the traffic was unbelievable. We estimated we shared this stretch off river with around 40 boats. The previous trip we only saw one boat and that was at the takeout.

The fishing was also a bit off. We still managed to boat about 15 fish. But the dry fly action was only a fraction of the day before. With streamers we moved afew big boys but only brought to hand a couple 12 to 14". I was able to hook up with half a dozen 8 to 12" fish nymphing with a brown rubberleg, also pulled in two small white fish.

Only one fish qualified for a photo op, and that was Greg's biggest of the day.

Now it is time to wait for the weather to get rid of all the snow up high. Hope for some nice warm rainy days ahead!! Like to get the runoff over with as quickly as possible so we can have a nice long season this year.

Till the rivers here clear up I'll just be reading up on the adventures of members who have clear waters to fish.

Wish Everyone Tight Lines and Sunny Days!!!

Looks like you had a good time although fishing was slow and the traffic heavy:eek: Davo...think you should drop a few mines in the water while boating:D:D:D

Chocolate milk? I talked with my cuzin over in Powell, WY today he said all his rivers are blown out too. I hope we have a better spring here than last season... MT got beat up with all that rain then runoff. Felt like 3 months of no fishing to me.

Davo- decent day on the water none the less I would say eh? Though always sucks when you expect the top water to boil only to have full sun and murky water.

edit- Rock Creek is still running near gin clear I have some pictures from last week, and hope to have more this week (maybe tomorrow) I will have to post some fish porn it sounds like.

Look forward to the fish porn!! Any day on the water is good!! We had clear water for the day the blowout did not reach us on our stretch. It made it that far down by the next day though. Not sure what spoiled the hatches, but the fish were not up on top much.

Last year we were not fishing until the beginning of August. I don't see that happening this year. Getting a couple extra weeks out of June would go a long way toward making up for last years short season!!:D
