Default Recommendation on guided float trip in sept in Montana

Looking for some Montana knowledge.

My wife and I will be staying in Ennis, MT the first week in September and hoping to do a float trip. Would everyone recommend yellowstone for fishing and overall beauty or should we consider other rivers?

Also, any guide recommendations would be great.

As always, thanks for all your help!

Just to clarify.. are you asking Yellowstone National Park.. or the Yellowstone River?

Yellowstone River but open to suggestions if you feel the park is the better selection.

Ennis is 200 miles from the Yellowstone River, and 20 feet from the Madison River. Are you sure you mean the Yellowstone?

It is not 200 miles from Ennis to Livingston ... but there closer options. The Madison is a no-brainer. The Big Hole would a great option and the Gallatin as well.

Dave knows the area way better than me, but you certainly do not have to travel far from your front door in Ennis to get to world class trout fishing. So it really depends on what you want.

You might also give this fly shop a call and ask them what they recommend, seeing how you are staying in Ennis:

You are correct. But it is still 100 miles vs. 20 ft.

But I think mcnerney nailed it best.

Thanks for your suggestions. Definitely will call the fly shop and will most likely float the Madison. Can't wait to get there.

It's nice shop. Ennis is a great little cow/trout/elk hunting town. September will be great!
