Default Kalispell Area

I am new to this forum and was hoping to get some help or advice. I am an avid fisherman here in Alberta. With saying that, I am looking for some advice or help on where a person could fish around the Kalispell area. My family and myself are staying at Lake McGregor the last week in August and I was hoping to take in some of Montana's great trout fishing. Also. what types of flies should a person be bringing down? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I think mcgregor is slightly west of kalispell if I remember my Montana geography. That puts you in the area of rivers like the kootenai and yaak. The kootenai is a big river home to our state record rainbow, and I read somewhere once so I dunno if its true that the fish was once the world record.

The stillwater, whitefish, and Thompson rivers are in that area as well. Ive never fished them so I don't really know much about them.

There is also the Clark fork to the south. Again ive never fished it so I dunno. Ive never reallly gotten west of the divide.

If you get east you should try out the Flathead or its fork. There all pretty good fishing even later into the summer.

Sorry I don't really have a lot of info but it might be a start for research. If you can find a map of the area, check out some of the local lakes and creeks. You should be able to find some decent fishing.

Give Stumptownanglers.com a call. They are located just North of Kalispell in Whitefish and can help. Good people there.
