Because I was just there I'll chime in a little on what my experiences were.
I did a raft trip from Pumphouse to Burns, and fished a few spots along the way. I caught maybe 15 brown trout ranging from 6"-14"
In the early am, fish were eating large dry caddis patterns and smaller stuff like bwo's and Adams #20s and #22s in the bubble riffles, pretty much as always. And there was a spinner fall but I wasn't able to fish that. I got into a few fish on a flashback pheasant tail, but only a few of them ate the nymphs.
Go do the same exact thing at dusk and you'll get results.
By day, streamers were the hit. Tie on a minnow imitator and drift it through the rocks along the banks and give it some jig action.
A couple of things going on now that are noteworthy:
- River warms up quick - was 66° at 2pm.
- River was not clear, but had a little silt going on.
- LOTS of anglers hitting it hard over the weekend.
- On yeah, many non-fishing types out there; its a party on the river, so share appropriately! (we witnessed an awesome brawl between two highly intoxicated parties on the beach of Rancho Del Rio)
Anyway hope this helps anyone if they are planning a trip to the Colorado!
