Default Dry Fly Fishing Suggestions NOW

I have a few days open around the 10th of September and am interested in hearing suggestions as to where I might want to go for some dry fly fishing in Wyoming, Montana or Colorado. Thanks in advance.

Hello Gbanker

The responses will be better if your choices are narrowed down.

Go to the Fryingpan. BWOs, PMDs, and maybe a few drakes upriver the fish may be still eating them. That pretty much narrows it down for Colorado.

for the North Platte in Wyo, Trico patterns work.

You better get out there NOW though, so get going.

Was out on the North Platte on Friday having some sport with klinks up at Alcova. River is still high and river weed is a big annoyance.

I am a dirty nympher nearly all year long, and I have fished nothing but dry flies for well over two months now. And the really good dry fly fishing is just about to get started as the temperatures begin to fall and the sun starts to dip a bit. I agree with Dave, nearly everywhere is fishing good on top.

If you want smaller crowds and don't mind wild, aggressive browns in the 12-16 inch range, the upper Arkansas is killer right now. And you can throw yellow stimulators in size 6-8 most of the time and get fish to crush it on top! Add a smaller dry or a dropper and you can easily have a 20 fish day if you find the right spot.
