I am meeting my brother in mid July and will be fishing around Golden. I have been to Durango and the train ride is a must, but I wasn't fly fishing back then we stayed there last. Sounds like you have some great input.
Enjoy it!

Well, I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for the help and the great suggestions. We are going to stay a couple of days in Basalt, and then a couple of days in Silverthorne for our 9th anniversary.

clibb, great suggestion about the VRBO. Got a great secluded cabin around Basalt and the wife loved it when I showed it to her yesterday.

To all of you that recommended Silverthorne, thanks. She is really glad we are going there as well and we booked a great room yesterday.

Should I start a new thread for asking all of my fly fishing questions now that my original question has been answered? Once again, thanks!

I would definitely do basalt (frying pan). Runoff will be high, so a damn released river is best. The blue is another option. In my opinion your wife will appreciate the roaring fork valley much better. Aspen is the best place to stay and you can get to the river in 30 minutes. Try the mountain chalet for a cheap place to stay. Limelight lodge is nice, but can be pricey. If not anything in Carbondale will work. It's about 25 minutes to the river, but your wife will have less shopping. Call taylor creek outfitters if you need some recommendations.
